Kashmiri Chai: A Delightful Pink Tea Infused with Aromatic Flavors

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 3-4 green cardamom pods
  • 2 teaspoons green tea leaves
  • 1 tablespoon chopped almonds
  • 1 tablespoon chopped pistachios
  • 4-5 teaspoons sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • A pinch of saffron threads
  • A few drops of rose water


Instructions

1. Bring water to a boil:

Pour 2 cups of water into a pot and bring it to a boil.

2. Add green cardamom pods:

Lightly crush the green cardamom pods and add them to the boiling water.
Let the cardamom pods steep in the water for about 1-2 minutes to release their aroma.

3. Add green tea:

Add 2 teaspoons of green tea leaves to the pot.
Let the tea steep in the water for about 3-4 minutes, or until it reaches your desired strength.

4. Strain the tea:

Using a fine-mesh strainer, strain the brewed tea into a separate pot or tea kettle, discarding the cardamom pods and tea leaves.

5. Add chopped nuts and sugar:

Add the chopped almonds, pistachios, and sugar to the strained tea.
Stir well to dissolve the sugar and allow the nuts to infuse their flavors into the tea.

6. Heat the milk:

In a separate small saucepan, heat the whole milk over medium heat until it begins to steam. Do not boil.

7. Add milk to the tea:

Pour the heated milk into the pot or tea kettle containing the brewed tea and nuts.
Stir gently to combine the milk with the tea.

8. Infuse with saffron and rose water:

Add a pinch of saffron threads to the tea and let it steep for a minute or two, allowing the saffron to infuse its vibrant color and aroma.
Add a few drops of rose water for a delightful floral note.

9. Serve and enjoy:

Pour the Kashmiri Chai into cups or small teacups.
Garnish with a sprinkle of chopped nuts on top.
